Protect Wokingham: Attend the Planning Appeal Hearing

Save Our Blagrove Countryside: Final Call to Action!

Dear Wokingham residents,

The time has come for us to stand united and make our voices heard! Berkeley Homes has appealed the Council’s rejection of their planning application to construct 350 houses between Evendons Lane and Barkham Road. This is our final opportunity to oppose this destructive development that threatens the very essence of our community.

Your Presence Matters: Attend the Appeal Hearing

We’re calling on every concerned resident to attend the Appeal Hearing. It is scheduled to start on Tuesday, 18th March 2025. The hearing will last for many days and will be held at Wokingham Council office at Shute End. Your physical presence at this crucial event will demonstrate the importance of our opposition. It will also highlight our concerns to the Inspector.

Why Your Attendance is Crucial

  1. Show Community Unity: A strong turnout will reinforce our message and showcase the widespread opposition to this unwanted development.

The Stakes Are High

This proposed development poses significant threats to our environment and community:

Environmental Impact

  • Destruction of a Local Wildlife Site in pristine ancient woodland
  • Removal of 167 mature trees
  • Disruption of critical habitats for protected species (bats, badgers, birds)
  • The uprooting of ancient hedgerows and agricultural land

Community Consequences

  • Permanent loss of green space between Wokingham and Barkham
  • Increased traffic congestion on rural lanes
  • Potential strain on local infrastructure and services
  • Disruption of local ecosystems and wildlife corridors

Strategic Concerns

The land in question:

  • Was never designated for housing
